Project Overview

Context

Adro is a digital banking platform built for newcomers to the U.S., such as international students and workers who often struggle to access banking services upon starting their new life due to lack of a Social Security Number or credit history.

The Problem

Newcomers to the U.S.-including international students and workers-face significant barriers to accessing essential banking services. Traditional banks require a Social Security Number or U.S. credit history, which most newcomers lack, leading to stress, confusion, and exclusion from the financial system.

Existing solutions are often complex, unwelcoming, or inaccessible before arrival, making it difficult for newcomers to manage money, build credit, or feel financially secure from day one.

The Results & Impact

Through an inclusive onboarding experience that made it easy to open an account without an SSN and transfer money from a local bank to the U.S. upon arrival, the MVP delivered promising results:

$2 million

total pre-seed funding secured through additional investment

7,000+ users

onboarded from 110+ countries, including a strong cohort of international students from 300+ U.S. schools

82%

account opening completion rate within the first 90 days

66%

of users who initiate a transfer to the U.S. within the first 90 days

How might we...

... remove financial barriers for newcomers, enabling them to bank, build credit, and settle into life in the U.S. with ease?
